HCP RIVR Supercomputer - Pathways To Knowledge

The EU has set up a network of eight supercomputers, one of which is the HCP RIVR supercomputer that will be housed at the Institute of Information Science (IZUM) in Maribor.

The HCP RIVR supercomputer will rank among the 35 most powerful supercomputers in the world in terms of computing power. It will support both the European research sphere and the industry in the development of new knowledge and applications in areas ranging from medicine to advanced materials and the combating of climate change. Project participants include the University in Maribor, the Institute of Information Science (IZUM) and the Faculty of Information Science in Novo mesto (FIŠ). The HPC RIVR has the processing speed of at least 1.5 petaflop/s with a storage system capable of storing at least 22 PB of data. This ranks it as the 23rd supercomputer in Europe and the 90th supercomputer in the world in terms of performance. The computing speed of the current highest-performance computer in Slovenia is 38 teraflop/s. The computer is owned by a private company.
