Visitors of public events will use reusable glasses within the areas of public use in Municipality of Maribor

At the events with large numbers of visitors a huge amount of waste is generated mainly due to dispense of beverages in disposable packaging or beverage sales in plastic bottles. In 2014, within the project Eco City Maribor and initiative Smart City Maribor, we have already started with a new strategy at carrying out of public events - the use of reusable packaging. The use of reusable packaging in all public events organized in public spaces in Maribor is laid down in the adopted municipal ordinance.

Reusable glasses are made of environmentally friendly polypropylene material, suitable for food storage, which is biodegradable, suitable for repeated washing and after use are not discarded as waste, but recycled. Glasses are extremely durable, easy to carry around and act as insulators – they retain drink cold or warm.

At public events, visitors will receive from caterers glasses the size of 0,3 litres or 0,5 litres, depending on the ordered drink. This will be commissioned through the security deposit of 1 EUR. When re-ordering the drink, visitor will be only replacing the glass. In case of non-returning the glass, the deposit will not be returned to the visitor.
